Shabby Chic Decorating - Living Rooms
Funny thing....on the way to my Monday inspiration post I got inspired! I spent the day rearranging the furniture in my living room, cleaning up the office area and the little entry in front of my door. I will post pics when I am sure I have done a good job. It isn't really easy in this 1980's California track home because of the way the room was built but I had been living with the same arrangement for three years and I had to break a few design "rules" to get it where it is now. Lots of wasted space in this particular floor plan and a few spaces where you scratch your head and think "what was the builder thinking?". So it's still Monday here, late .... but still Monday......

This mantle is elegant and sophisticated, not much on it, but the pieces on it command your attention and on this stone fireplace they would need to. Smaller pieces would be out of scale and totally lost on this mantle.
Now here is the French living room it resides in...

love the colors even the large shabby black armoire, but it is much too big for that place and makes that side of the room feel very heavy, and takes your focus away from the fireplace. Love the bar area on the right though.

Just a minute the kettle is whistling ....

Do you notice the recurring theme in my inspiration pieces? That is it! I have a thing for mirrors. This picture is from the Gothic House Tours. Love the shabby chic of it all in this room. Mirrors going up the stairway wall, vintage pieces with their aged finishes, textures, slipcovers and shutters, light, bright and airy ... Yummy! I would definitely love sitting down with my cup of tea in this room.
I wonder what the view is like out of those beautiful windows?
Have a wonderful day full of inspiration!

So beautiful! It is this look that really inspires me, but it is so difficult to replicate. I started on the 'shabby chic' journey several years ago and I have found some beautiful pieces for our house in France. It does help that the sun shines here in l'isle sur la sorgue 300 days per year, but this is the capital of the antiques market in France. Keep up the inspiring blog!
