Shabby Chic Dreamy Kitchens
Instead of my 80's kitchen nightmare!
I am dreaming of a new kitchen inside of my new home ( I know it's on its way, I am visualizing as I type). The one I am in now is 80's oak complete with scary oak framed florescent light box and a laminate counter top. You may wonder why a designer lives with a kitchen like that, long story (tmi) the short version is; injury, surgeries, almost lost hubby, started over again and landlord has no interest in maintaining or improving his property. But it's all good because I love what I do and I get to share it with you!
I Love different parts of each of these kitchens:

I really love the tile, easy to keep clean in a kitchen and I have my eye on some iridescent white tiles.

The island with an attached table is big on most of the clients this year. I have always loved the contrast of white and dark wood but my new favorite is Jacobean which is a deep, dark almost black brown. It reminds me of rich, dark chocolate.

The floors I love

The stove is fabulous.
Open shelving is out because, here in California there seems to be a plentiful supply of dust and greasy film, no matter where we have lived, even though I fry maybe once every other month and most of my cooking is done on the outside grill. Glass front doors are nice but I haven't really seen any I love, yet. I have a plan already drawn up and I am working on a design board. We are currently looking for a cooler area to move to because I am really done with this whole desert thing.

I am really not much of a chef or cook, my thing is baking. This kitchen is perfect size for my cooking ability, but not quite big enough for my baking endeavors.

Sanra, after 30+ years in the same small house (which I dearly loved) I just knew when I moved last year I would get a better kitchen. I didn't. I got a horrible cheap 90's makeover in a kitchen as small as the one I left behind. My old one at least had it's 50's vintage charm. The new one has none. Thanks for sharing the pictures. One of these days I'll work on updating mine. Sorry about the accident. Had somewhat of a similiar scenary a few years ago when mu husband was riding his motorcycle and hit by a car that did not stop. No other identified driver, no compensation. I share you frustration. From what I read your are so talented and certainly rebuilding. All the best!

Hi Sandra,
So sorry to hear about your hubby. I am glad things are looking up now though. I still have an 80's kitchen and it will probably stay that way for a good long time or until we decide to move. Hubby made oak cabinets in 1982 and they looked great for years...not so great now after 28 years and 3 kids later not to mention all the grandkids now. My dream kitchen would be white , white, white!!
Blessings~

I dream of the beach frequently. Whether in daydreams or night dreams, I am often thinking of those turquoise waves in the Caribbean.
So when I got the opportunity to remodel my kitchen following a water faucet breakdown, the beach and sea were the obvious choices for inspiration in my new kitchen.

These kitchens are just beautiful! You might like to check out my flikr photos. I create decorative towels for kitchens like these. When I got a new kitchen, i wanted Shabby Chic and romantic decor. I ended up making the tea towels myself. Now i sell on Ebay. I hope you enjoy the prettiness of my shabby chic towels. Regards, Cath.
