Shabby Chic Trend or Tired

Shabby Chic Trend Fades Away....

Trends don't last forever and shabby chic lasted longer than some. Rachel Ashwell, the stylist/decorator that achieved the most attention for this style through her books and t.v. shows managed to trademark the term here in the U.S. and the internet community brought her style back for a few years but now the trend seems to be fading mainly due to a bullying campaign inflicted on businesses and bloggers to eliminate any use of the words "Shabby Chic" by her brand partners.

So is the trend fading or is it just being called something else and eventually do we all get tired of looking at  "shabby" things??  What do you think?

The trend certainly isn't fading here in Australia - keep your chin up - something so beautiful and unique will stay alive as long as we let it so keep letting it live on!!! So many Shabby Chic bloggers I talk to just love what they do - I know you do so smile and keep up the great work.

I disagree. I think shabby chic is definitely still popular. Perfect for coastal and cottage homes. It depends on your style. Even if you don't want a whole room in shabby chic, a selective piece here or there can still make a statement!

Shabby chic is not dead! But Rachel Ashwell's company is irrelevant and such bullying tactics make me sick. Shabby chic is a ubiquitous term - a design style, not just her company! I will always LOVE the shabby chic style, but will never buy anything with her name on it!

I think shabby chic is just a term for a style that has been around for a long time without a big fanfare. Many have always cherished time-worn objects valued for their very imperfection and the silent stories they whisper, and carefully surrounded them with a soft lightness and honest simplicity. Once the look had a name and became trendy, it was inevitable that at some point it would be "so over". But the style called shabby chic is not about furnishings, textiles and accessories from the right stores, it's about creating a feeling that will continue to be cherished as it has for a long time.

Over the years, I believe "Shabby Chic" has taken on a life of its own transforming over the years. THe "Shabby Chic" look has become more personalized to an individuals tastes. I think some of the new types of names covering this "transformation" are Cottage Style, Flea Market Stle, Junk Market Style (I know, I think these are ALL magazines...lol) but it shows that "Shabby Chic" has just evolved, but is as alive as ever, especially with the trend of re-purposing.

Her term has become a generic term to describe a decorating style. Did a LOT of trade mark law research. They know it but surely aren't going to tell us. I know it now too though. Someone would have to file a court petition and over 1 million internet searches using that term as a decorating style could easily prove that. They are just trying to police something that has long ago gotten out of control.
